Most people require a work permit to work in Canada. Work permit authorizes an individual to work legally in Canada. Work permit can be two types:
- Closed work permit
- Open work permit
- prove to an officer that you will leave Canada when your work permit expires;
- show that you have enough money to take care of yourself and your family members during your stay in Canada and to return home;
- obey the law and have no record of criminal activity
- be in good health and have a medical exam, if needed;
- not plan to work for an employer listed with the status “ineligible” on the list of employers who failed to comply with the conditions; offers striptease, erotic dance, escort services or erotic massages
Closed work permit:
A closed work permit is employer specific work permit which allows the foreign national to work for the Specific employer. Employer will need to obtain LMIA and provide worker with the same so the application for work permit can be made.
This type of work permit restricts the worker to work with the employer specified on the permit.
Open work permit:
As the name suggests, open work permit has no restriction in terms of employer or industry. Open work permits are issued to applicants for PR within Canada, Spouse open work permits for spouses of skilled worker applicants and students,post graduation work permits, IEC candidates etc.
